This document is to help clarify the process of updating the firmware on a GXT5 UPS system.
Although the firmware used in this example is for ‘HV’ systems, this should apply to those that require the system to be put into ‘Total Bypass’ (breaker(s) at rear of cabinet)
On the front of the UPS display, verify that the system is set to ‘Auto, Bypass…’
Establish a connection between your laptop and the UPS System, via an ethernet cord. Connect to the RDU101 communication card (plug into RS232 port).
Open the browser on your laptop to sign in on the Vertiv Interphase. The default IP Address is the following: 169.254.24.7
The default Username/Password: Liebert/Liebert
Click on the word ‘Summary’ at the left column in the interphase to see the active one-line diagram. Verifying that system is ‘normal’. The interphase screen & laptop should be the same.
5. On the back of the UPS System, loosen the screw to lift the slider-bar up (this put the system into static bypass), and close the bypass breakers.
Once the bypass breakers are closed, you can disconnect the REPO terminal block by pulling it out.
Return to the interphase screen on the laptop, ‘click’ on “File Transfer” at the left column. On the ‘File Transfer’ page, press ‘Choose File’ to navigate to the unzipped folder where you have the new Firmware located. THE ENCRYPTED FILE SHOULD BE TRANSFERRED FIRST! Then, the MCUV file afterward. Be sure to wait until the interphase page on the laptop resets to the ‘greyed on-line’ before continuing with the next file.
After both files have been installed, plug the REPO terminal block back in. DO NOT OPEN THE BYPASS BREAKERS!
Go to the front of the UPS system to ‘Turn-On’ system, by holding the power button in for 3 seconds. This will put the UPS into ‘Static Bypass’. Verify by viewing display or laptop monitor.
You can now go to the rear of the UPS and open the Bypass Breaker(s) and move the slider-bar down and tightened screw, to lock in place.
Return to the front of the UPS display. Hold down the power button for 3 seconds and choose to ‘Turn On’ UPS system. After a few seconds, UPS will go back online! (Display will show normal operation).
Congratulations, you have successfully upgraded the firmware on a GXT5, don't forget to fill out your Vertiv Report!
